John Fitzgerald Kennedy became president of the United States of America in 1960 and served until his untimely death in 1963. He and his family descended from Irish immigrants, and together they formed one of the true powerhouses of American politics. For 64 years there was a Kennedy in office in some capacity in Washington. This means that there was a Kennedy in American politics for at least one quarter of America’s existence.
